Storing Seating Mixes Between Services
Stack height, stack placement and the fifteen minutes at close that keep a chair from going home with a guest.

Stack height is a floor-space decision
stacking cafe chairs chairs stack eight high, which turns 8 chairs into one footprint about 1.1 m tall. On a 40 sqm room that is the difference between a working store and a corridor full of chairs.
Check the ceiling, not the catalogue. Eight chairs plus the trolley need 1.3 m of clear height.
Where the stack lives matters more than how tall it is
Put the stack where staff pass with a tray, not where guests queue. Stacks behind the door are the standard mistake: they block the entrance at exactly the moment the room is full.
Allow 900 mm in front of the stack for pulling chairs off, and keep the stack off the service path so it never becomes an obstacle course.
Stacking wears the frame in three places
Wear shows at the seat edge where the frame above lands, at the front leg where it meets the floor, and at the joint between the back and the seat rail. Those three points are where the catalogue photo never looks.
Stacking chairs with a protective pad at the seat contact point last years longer than the same chair without it. Ask for the pad, it costs almost nothing.
Nesting is not stacking
Nesting chairs slide into each other and take about 60 percent of the footprint of a stack of the same count, but the frames are heavier and the seat sits lower. For a room that resets twice a day, nesting wins; for a room that stores once a night, stacking wins.
The close-down routine costs fifteen minutes a day
Wipe the stack points, check for a bent leg, and count. Chairs missing from the stack go home with a guest or sit in the wrong room, and the count is how you find out on the same night instead of three weeks later.
Keep 5 percent spares per hundred chairs. Frames do not fail often, but they always fail on a Saturday.
Freight is where stacking pays for itself
Stacking chairs ship with several frames nested per carton, which cuts the container volume by about half compared with fixed chairs. On a full container of seating mixes that difference is the freight line on the quote.
If the order is small, ask for the carton dimensions before you ask for the price. Volume decides whether the shipment goes by LCL or waits for a full box.
The factory calendar nobody plans for
Production in Foshan slows for about two weeks around Chinese New Year, and the queue before the holiday is longer than the queue after it.
Orders placed in November land in January. Orders placed in January land in March. 25–35 days lead times assume the factory is running, not reopening.
Packing decides how much arrives undamaged
Furniture travels badly when it travels loose. Corner protectors, foam at every frame contact point and a carton that does not flex are the difference between a clean install and a claim.
Ask for carton dimensions and stacking limits. Containers are loaded to the ceiling, and a carton that crushes under the third layer takes the finish with it.
The install day, hour by hour
Unload by zone, not by carton: seating to the back wall, tables to the middle, small pieces to the counter. Rooms that are 60 percent placed can be worked in; a room full of open cartons cannot.
Set levels before you set positions. Every table gets a check for wobble on the finished floor, and any table that rocks gets a shim or a new foot the same day, not next week.
What the furniture looks like in year two
Year two is when the honest differences show. Frames either hold their joints or they do not; upholstery either cleans up or it has a shadow where the seat takes the weight.
The pieces that age well are the ones bought with a spare parts sheet and a finish code. cafe furniture outlive the rooms they were bought for, which is why the spec sheet is worth keeping.
