It fits a narrow floor, where the chairs have to tuck fully under the table to keep the aisle. The solid wood carries the load and the rattan is what people meet at the table, which is the right way round for a chair that gets used all day.
Frame and upholstery
The frame is solid wood, jointed and glued at the corners rather than stapled, so it stays square through a year of being pushed in and out. The seat is woven in rattan, pulled tight over the frame so it does not sag at the front edge. The back is woven rather than solid, so the chair reads light from across the room.
Built to your drawing
The finish goes on in three coats, sanded back between the second and the third. Seat height is set to your drawing rather than to a stock number: send the table or counter height and the leg is cut to suit, and a sample leaves the workshop before the run starts.
Ordering and care
It is packed flat where the design allows, which keeps the freight bill down on a run of forty or more. Rattan wants a dry brush and a damp cloth, and it should not be left wet overnight.
