It fits a narrow floor, where the chairs have to tuck fully under the table to keep the aisle. The solid wood carries the load and the velvet is what people meet at the table, which is the right way round for a chair that gets used all day.
Frame and upholstery
The frame is solid wood, jointed and glued at the corners rather than stapled, so it stays square through a year of being pushed in and out. The velvet pile is short and dense, chosen so it does not flatten where people push back from the table. The back is curved in plan as well as in section, which is what stops a shoulder finding an edge.
Built to your drawing
The seat frame is mortised into the legs, not screwed into the outside face where the fixing would show. Seat height is set to your drawing rather than to a stock number: send the table or counter height and the leg is cut to suit, and a sample leaves the workshop before the run starts.
Ordering and care
It is packed flat where the design allows, which keeps the freight bill down on a run of forty or more. Velvet wants a soft brush against the pile, not a damp cloth, which leaves a mark.
